Importing from Text

Have a recipe saved in Apple Notes, OneNote, Google Docs, a text file, or an email? You can paste it directly into Marinaid and it will be automatically organized into a structured recipe.

How to import from text

  1. Open the app where your recipe is saved (Apple Notes, OneNote, etc.).
  2. Select and copy the full recipe text — title, ingredients, and instructions.
  3. Open Marinaid and tap the + button.
  4. Tap Create Recipe from Text.
  5. Tap in the text area and paste your recipe.
  6. Tap Parse Recipe — Marinaid will automatically separate the title, ingredients, and instructions.
  7. Review the result and tap Save.

What gets parsed

Marinaid looks for common recipe patterns in the text you paste:

  • Title — usually the first line or heading
  • Ingredients — lines with quantities and units (e.g. “2 cups flour”, “1 tbsp olive oil”)
  • Instructions — numbered steps or paragraphs describing the cooking process

Tips for best results

  • Include clear section labels. Text with headings like “Ingredients” and “Instructions” (or “Directions”, “Steps”, “Method”) parses most accurately.
  • One ingredient per line. If your source has ingredients in a comma-separated paragraph, put each on its own line before copying.
  • Keep the title at the top. The first line of text is usually detected as the recipe title.
  • Don’t worry about formatting. Bold, italic, and bullet points from Notes or OneNote are stripped automatically — the raw text is all that matters.

Copying from specific apps

Apple Notes

Open the note, tap and hold to select text, then drag the selection handles to highlight the full recipe. Tap Copy. Switch to Marinaid and paste.

OneNote

Open the page with your recipe, select all the text (tap > Select All or manually highlight), then Copy. Switch to Marinaid and paste.

Google Docs

Open the document, long-press to start selecting, then drag to highlight the recipe. Tap Copy from the toolbar. Switch to Marinaid and paste.

Text files / emails

Same approach — select the recipe text, copy, and paste into Marinaid.

After import

You’ll see a preview of the parsed recipe before saving. You can:

  • Edit the title, ingredients, or instructions
  • Add a photo, servings, prep time, or cook time
  • Assign the recipe to a collection

Tap Save when you’re happy with the result, or Edit to make changes before saving.
