Siri & Shortcuts
Marinaid works with Siri and the Shortcuts app so you can jump to common actions hands-free — especially useful mid-cook, when your hands are messy.
How to use them
Section titled “How to use them”Just say the phrase to Siri, starting with “Hey Siri.” Marinaid will ask a follow-up question if it needs more information (like which recipe you mean) — Siri can’t reliably understand a recipe name embedded in the middle of a spoken phrase, so these commands are fixed and prompt you afterward instead.
Available commands

New on iOS 27: say the recipe’s name Requires iOS 27
Section titled “New on iOS 27: say the recipe’s name ”On iOS 27, Apple Intelligence can route a recipe name straight to your library — you no longer have to say a fixed phrase and wait to be asked which recipe:

Two things worth knowing:
- “Cook [recipe]” opens the recipe — it doesn’t start Cooking Mode. iOS decides where a spoken recipe name goes, and apps can’t override it. To actually start cooking, use the bare phrase “Start cooking in Marinaid” and name the recipe when Siri asks.
- You still have to say “Marinaid.” A phrase without the app name goes to web search instead.
New on iOS 27: meal plan and grocery actions in Shortcuts Requires iOS 27
Section titled “New on iOS 27: meal plan and grocery actions in Shortcuts ”iOS 27 adds a few more Marinaid building blocks to the Shortcuts app:
- Meal plan entries behave like calendar events, so a shortcut can add, move, or remove a planned meal.
- Mark Grocery Items Checked ticks items off your list, which is handy at the end of a shopping automation.
These are reliable when you run them from a shortcut or chain them with other apps. Asking Siri for them in plain language (“plan Bolognese for Saturday”) is not — that tends to get read as a search instead. Use the “Plan a recipe in Marinaid” phrase for voice, and save the Shortcuts actions for automations.
What still doesn’t work by voice
Section titled “What still doesn’t work by voice”These are iOS limitations rather than missing features, and they haven’t changed on iOS 27:
- “Plan this recipe” while looking at a recipe — Siri won’t pass the on-screen recipe to an app. Name it when prompted instead.
- “Remove dinner from my meal plan” — iOS reserves deleting-from-a-schedule for its own apps. Remove it in Marinaid.
- Naming an item inside a fixed phrase — “Add Bolognese to my grocery list in Marinaid” misroutes. Say the bare phrase, then say the recipe’s name when Siri asks — it searches your whole library, so any recipe works, not just the ones it offers up front.
Building your own Shortcuts
Section titled “Building your own Shortcuts”All of these actions are also available as building blocks in the Shortcuts app, so you can combine them with other apps or trigger them automatically (like an automation that opens your meal plan every morning).
A note on adding specific items by voice
Section titled “A note on adding specific items by voice”Marinaid does have an Add Grocery Items action that takes item names directly (“eggs, butter, 2 lb flour”), but it has no built-in spoken phrase — so saying “add milk to my grocery list” to Siri out of the box won’t reach it.
To use it by voice, open the Shortcuts app, create a shortcut around Marinaid’s Add Grocery Items action, and give it whatever phrase you like. Siri will then run it on that phrase.
Marinaid’s built-in voice commands are the fixed phrases listed above. To add a whole recipe’s worth of ingredients without setting anything up, use “Add ingredients to my grocery list in Marinaid”.
